What to do in case of an accident

We always receive a lot of calls from clients asking about the procedure concerning MVA cases or car accident injuries.   
What to do if you are involved in a car accident:
It is very usual and normal if you feel confused right after the accident, you might not remember what exactly happened. But do not worry, your memory will back very soon.  
After the accident, if you do not feel good or if you have pain in parts of your body, especially in your neck or back, stay in your car and wait for the paramedics to assess you out and help you get out of the car.
If the accident is not serious and you are able to get out of the car by yourself:
1. The first step is taking pictures from different views of the scene, from your car and the other vehicles involved in the accident.
2. Call 911 to inform them about the accident and wait for further instructions.
3. Exchange all information with the other vehicles’ drivers, including insurance companies’ info, and driving license info. Try to write down what happened in the accident with all the details you can recall.
4. Notify your insurance company about the accident and your pain or injuries as soon as possible. Remember, if you do not feel any pain or issue right after the accident, it does not necessarily mean that nothing happened to your body. Pain might start in different parts of your body between few hours to even few days after the accident. This is something that health practitioners and insurance companies’ representative are totally familiar with. Your insurance case worker(adjuster) will give you a claim number.
5. Make an appointment with your physiotherapist for a thorough assessment and bring your claim number in addition to some more information requested by your physiotherapist. Make sure that your physiotherapy clinic is registered with car insurance companies to take MVA or car accident cases.
In an eligible and experienced physiotherapy clinic, you will be informed how to fill out a claim form to activate your file with your insurance company.
